FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of a church is this?

We are a family-sized congregation of the United Church of Christ - a community where people know each other by name and welcome those who are seeking a spiritual home to find a place to grow. For the last 150 years, Bostwick Lake Church has gathered in Cannon Township to celebrate the presence and diversity of God in our community. Upon entering our church, you will be greeted with the words,

"No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey,

you are welcome here... just as you are."

We take this greeting seriously.  Because of this, there is a diversity of people and perspectives in our congregation.  There are no tests of correct faith or belief.  Instead, we allow the witness of the historic faith testimonies and the teachings of the bible to inspire and develop a unique consciousness of God for each person.  We worship together exploring the good news of the One we follow, Jesus Christ - inspiring one another to connect the ancient story to our present life.

We invite many kinds of music into worship - classical, jazz, blues, folk, gospel are all heard in our worship. We are very comfortable with questions and doubts about faith.

What do we believe?

We are followers in the Way of Jesus Christ who take the Bible seriously. This means that we take the time to understand the bible's context, language, metaphor, poetry, and truth beyond simplistic moralism. We believe that God calls each of us to make a difference by serving others. We welcome all people - not to become like us but to become who they have been called to become by God.

When is worship?

Worship is Sunday at 10:30am and lasts about 75 minutes. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

Is there a Children's Ministry?

Yes, our children begin their worship in the sanctuary and then are invited to move their experience to our fully equipped Worship Centers downstairs. Trained and loving two-person teams offer learning and expression opportunities that related directly to the topics our pastor is teaching each Sunday.

Is there a Nursery?

Yes, our nursery is painted in bright and fresh colors and is staffed by a loving care-giver. Pagers are available to keep you in constant contact should your child have any need.

Is there a Youth Group?

Yes! For children in Middle and High School ages, our youth group offers an exciting mix of friendship, spiritual growth, learning and service. Our youth groups are a place where young people can truly be themselves encouraged by both adult leaders and our pastor to explore their lives in the context of real issues and their faith.
